July 1990 and March 1993. Two one-page letters in the original airmail envelopes. The first typewritten and hand signed with extensive manuscript postscript, the second written in ink. Letters creased as expected; the stamp has been clipped from one of the two envelopes; very good. § Two letters written by Rumer Godden to an admirer, the American author Mary Judith Robinson. The first is a copy of a typewritten form letter of thanks for appreciations sent, hand addressed to Robinson, hand signed "Rumer Godden", and with a friendly and personal 8-line postscript added in ink. The second is a handwritten letter sent three years later, thanking Robinson for a copy of a book she had written and explaining why she refrains from commenting on the writings of others. The two letters from Robinson which prompted these replies are included as photocopies. Rumer Godden (1907-1998) was an English novelist and author of books for children. She won the Whitbred Award in 1972 for The Diddakoi. Nine of her books have been made into movies, most notably The Black Narcissus in 1947 and The River in 1951.
