Both used, one "Jeffries Wrestling with His Trainer at Rowardennan" / "Weidner Photo, S.F.", addressed to a woman in Montana, no message, posted in July 1910 after the bout. The second card showing Jeffries alone with his boxing dukes up in a threatening posture, "Dana Studio, San Francisco" printed at the bottom "James J. Jeffries", someone has written in ink "Undresses". This one mailed to "Miss Dolly McPherson" in San Francisco, postmarked "Ben Lomond / June 18 /1910", signed "Love, Otto Morgan". He was at the training camp at the Rowardennan Hotel in Ben Lomond - "I have been here in Jeff's training camp about 10 days now, sending press dope for the W.U. (Western Union?) but Jeff goes to Reno about Monday, so I may come back to S.F. although I may be sent right along to Reno. Will try to see you if I have time Monday. Be good". "The Rowardennan Hotel had many famous guests, but the most legendary event was when heavyweight champion Jim Jeffries made Rowardennan his training camp in 1910. The undefeated Jeffries was lured out of retirement to fight Jack Johnson for a $101,000 fee. The 315-pound fighter needed to work off the 95 pounds he had gained in retirement, and some of his training methods were rather unique. Jeffries filled sacks with wet sand and built a dam on the San Lorenzo River, and when it was done, he took it apart and reassembled it at another location. He also cut redwood trees with an ax, and built a log cabin with the lumber. He sparred with visiting fighters every Sunday, one of which was retired champion Gentleman Jim Corbett" (San Jose Mercury News, May 4, 1993, p. 18). Soiling on the back of the first named above, otherwise Very Good or better.
