This American stage and motion picture producer and director worked with everyone from Humphrey Bogart and Ronald Reagan to Audie Murphy and Rock Hudson, but it's for producing and directing television's "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" (1970-92) that he will always be remembered -- and which earned him five Emmy Awards. TNS, 1p, 7¼" X 10½", Burbank, CA, 3 February 1987. Addressed to a Chiago publisher. Near fine. Pencilled editorial notes at upper right. Cordial note on his "Carson Tonight, Inc." letterhead to this Chicago Publisher who had just published Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka's autobiography ("Yes, indeed, we were happy with Mr. Ditka's appearance), informing him that "Michael Korda of Simon & Schuster made a deal with me some time ago, and 'Johnny Came Lately' should be in the stores in about six months." Boldly signed in blue ballpoint.
