This Hollywood producer began in the 1920s in the theater, producing Provincetown Players productions together with Eugene O'Neill; in films he is remembered for winning an Academy Award for Best Color Short Film for his 1934 "La Cucaracha"; throughout the 1930s and '40s he produced many films, among them "Little Women" (1933), "Becky Sharp" (1935), " Young Mr. Lincoln" (1939), "The Story of Alexander Graham Bell" (1939), "Man Hunt" (1941), "Jane Eyre" (1944) and "Lifeboat" (1944). TNS, 1p, 8½" X 11", Beverly Hills, CA, 9 December 1939. Adrresed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar). Near fine. Original folds.
