Signed in pencil, lower right, and inscribed "EA," lower left. 21 1/8 x 16 3/4 inches (plate). 30 x 22 inches (sheet). In excellent condition.Moti was born in Bombay and studied art there until 1946, when he moved to England. He received a Masters Degree in painting and sculpture from the Slade School, and also studied with the sculptor Reg Butler. He moved to France around 1950, where he lived for the rest of his life. In 1952 he began doing printmaking at Atelier 17, then still directed by S. W. Hayter. He utilised and enhanced the experimental techniques of printing with inks of differeng viscosity, the layering of which allows the creation of different textural effects in a single run through the press, a process which had been pioneered by Hayter and Krishna Reddy. For Moti, the effects emulated painterly tonalities reminicent of the works of Old Master and Romantic Painters. Moti had a long and successful career making prints using these methods.
