They were members of the German Baptist Brethren in the Shenandoah Valley in the Civil War. Their religious beliefs required them to be pacifists, but Neff ended up serving in the Confederate Army. The book also highlights the impact the war had on the valley. He reports of smuggling and contraband trading, both Union and Confederate spying, hunger, destitution, and death. The author is a relative of Neff. There is a signed dedication opposite the title page to the Union Hospital Dialysis Center dated 11/17/2020. Very good copy of the hard cover book in a good dust jacket. The dust jacket has edge wear. 315 pages.
