501pp. (charcoal spine with silver titles). Flat signed by the author to the title page with an Ottaker's signed copy sticker to the front card cover to add to the provenance. Slight shelf wear, slight edge wear in places, slight lean to the spine and some slight reading creases to the spine. Still a nice, bright signed very good copy.

It begins at a prestigious music school in New York City. A killer flees the scene of a homicide and locks himself in a classroom. Within minutes, the police have him surrounded. When a scream rings out, followed by a gunshot, they break down the door. The room is empty.
Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are brought in to help with the high-profile investigation. For the ambitious Sachs, solving the case could earn her a promotion. For the quadriplegic Rhyme, it means relying on his protegee to ferret out a master illusionist they've dubbed "the conjurer," who baits them with gruesome murders that become more diabolical with each fresh crime. As the fatalities rise and the minutes tick down, Rhyme and Sachs must move beyond the smoke and mirrors to prevent a terrifying act of vengeance that could become the greatest vanishing act of all.

Review
The characters, as usual with Deaver, are little more than cardboard cutouts. Even Rhyme himself, a brilliant quadriplegic and former head of NYPD forensics, seems more a collection of characteristics than a man. But Deaver's cutouts are sturdy and well-constructed, and the book's plotting and pacing--featuring twist upon twist and reversal upon reversal--are nothing short of dazzling, reminiscent of Agatha Christie at her best. Deaver proves himself an accomplished illusionist, misdirecting your attention with one hand while slipping a firecracker down your pants with the other. --Nicholas H. Allison

Store description
Trumpington Fine Books Limited has been in business for a number of years. We specialize in all books of distinction whether they be modern collectable first editions, monographs or books of reference, fine bindings or antiquarian. Or just simple affordable books, which we believe are of merit. We focus on describing our books thoroughly and aim to make each customer satisfied with their purchase. 'What it says on the tin'....is what should be in the tin. We also take great care in the packaging of our books - we virtually never have a complaint about books being damaged in transit and we aim to uphold this - despite the fact that it is considerably more expensive on time and materials (and thus money) to pack books well. We try and make our books as affordable as possible and we recognize that times are hard. We have many repeat customers and we are delighted to have them as they only confirm the above. On the rare occasion that things do go wrong, we will try very hard to rectify any problems. We are able to bulk purchase through Royal Mail and aim to make no money out of postage - in point of fact, after taking into account the cost of packaging materials, we take a loss on postage - all our discounts are passed on to the customer. In our business we will endeavour to always uphold the customer. So in short, buy with confidence! Testimonial from Jose in Spain who recently bought some books from us : THE BOOKS HAVE ARRIVED IN PERFECT ORDER AND WITH THE EXPECTED QUALITY. YOU PACK FOR WAR! THANK YOU. LOOK FORWARD TO DEALING WITH YOU AGAIN SOON. BEST WISHES JOSE and we look forward to his next point of contact with us.…
