Three-volume set in matching period bindings of 3/4 leather and marbled paper Leather at spines and corners/tips). Very much a standard of nineteenth-century medieval history, with this second edition probably being as useful today as the first. Nice to find a full set in these handsome (though somewhat worn) bindings of the time. Armorial bookplates of James Whatman in each volume; a small slip with a cut signature of Hallam's (from a letter; mounted on blue paper) is inserted loosely. One hinge largely splitting. Some tanning to the paper, but still a nice set.
