The Village Politicians and other poems; by R. A. Parsons; Foreword by The Hon. J. R. Smallwood; Illustrated by Reginald Shepherd, A.O.C.A.; published by Newfoundland Academy of Art, 1960. Presentation copy to Sister M. Hildegarde, with stamp “Community Library, St. Catherine’s Convent, St. John’s, Newfoundland. From Smallwood’s Foreword – I have read with intense enjoyment these poems of Mr. Parsons’ third volume. These poems breathe his love of Newfoundland. You will notice that practically every verse is about Newfoundland. I know of no other Newfoundland poet whose work is so exclusively concerned with Newfoundland. Mr. Parsons, who is an out-harbourman come to live in St. John’s, is still at heart a bay-boy. All through his life he has been going out around the Bay, to visit his native Bay Roberts, and all the beautiful little towns around it. This book, 133 pages is in near-fine condition, in a near-fine dust jacket.
