A powerful trio of black-and-white photographs documenting the Equal Rights Amendment rally held in New York City in 1977, captured by photographer William Angotti, who signed the two mounted photographs, which measure 11" x 14" overall; the third, unmounted photo measures 7.25" x 9.25". One striking image features Betty Friedan, prominent feminist and author of The Feminine Mystique, speaking at the microphone during the Central Park rally. The other two photographs depict marchers including women, children, and at least one man holding signs in support of the ERA. Visible slogans include: "Kids for ERA," "Equality is an Equal Right," "Local 62 ILGWU Supports ERA," and "Keep Your Laws Off My Body." Typed on the verso of the unmounted photo is: "Women s Liberation Equal Rights Amendment Rally, August 27, 1977 New York, NY, Photographer William Angotti." Handwritten beneath one of the mounted prints: "ERA Rally, Broadway, NY, NY." All three prints are in good condition, with minimal wear. These photographs capture a pivotal moment in the American feminist movement and reflect the energy and urgency of grassroots activism in the 1970s.
