Hardcover. Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt stamping on the front cover and on the spine (though it has all rubbed away). Top page edge gilt. Spine is toned. Cloth is frayed at the corners and head-and-foot of the spine. Front and rear gutters are cracked but muslin remains entirely intact; binding is delicate. Signed by the author, Robert Charlwood Richardson, on the front attached endpaper. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece of West Point Academy titled "East View of West Point from the Hudson River". Tissue guard intact though a bit foxed. Title and copyright pages are dated 1917. 354 pages plus 4 pages of ads. 34 illustrations. Interiors are clean and free from marks of tears. Robert Charlwood Richardson Jr. was a veteran of the 1904 Philippine insurrection, World War I, and World War II. He commanded the U.S. Army, Pacific (Hawaiian Department) during the height of World War II in 1943 until his retirement in 1946. During that time he was also the military governor of Hawaii (which was at that time still a US Territory) and Commanding General of U.S. Army Forces in the Pacific Ocean Areas. Overall, a fair and historic copy. Please e-mail us with questions or to request photos.…

In warmer months we stay open until 9 most nights, but you might want to call ahead. (540) 373-6148 Shipping rates are for Media Mail, in a padded envelope - WE DO NOT ADD TRACKING UNLESS THE CUSTOMER REQUESTS IT AND PAYS FOR IT - we have been selling books online for more than 20 years & find that the USPO delivers 99.99% of packages quickly and safely, without any need for a tracking number. We trust them & we hope you will too. If you need tracking, please consider PRIORITY SHIPPING. We ship orders valued at more than $50 in a box, at no additional charge. Priority mailing is for a Flat-Rate envelope, with tracking included. If the book does not fit into a flat rate envelope, we will likely need to request extra shipping costs from you, in order to put it in a box. We only charge the actual amount of shipping, so we hope you'll understand that it's just a matter of getting the book to you without taking a loss on it -- shipping is a service we happily offer without a 'handling' charge.... but we can't afford to charge you less than the cost of the stamps!…

Regular shipping by USPS Media Mail is $4. MEDIA MAIL SHIPPING DOES NOT INCLUDE TRACKING.
If you'd like tracking, please let us know before you place the order - We're happy to do it but it costs $1 extra because it means we have to print a shipping label for it individually, slowing down the shipping process considerably -- and we want to be able to keep basic shipping costs as low as we can.
