Dustwrapper very slightly rubbed; felt pen mark covering earlier name or inscription to front pastedown; trace of foxing to edges and endpapers. Good to very good condition. 'The adventures and experiences here told occurred in South Africa before 1875, and when the narrators were under 21. They are taken from diaries, letters, journals and memoirs, many not previously published or not readily available. 'The purpose of this collection is to take a fresh look at the British tradition in our country; for a change, to pass over the commentaries of men and women who arrived here as mature and formed characters; to look, instead, at Africa as it appeared through the eyes of the impressionable under-twenties: those whom Africa was to shape, and who were to shape Africa.'
