Rodney Lough Jr.’s fine art photography offers a spectacular visual experience of the wilderness and landscape of the United States from the silent Florida Everglades to the beauty and grandeur of Olympic National Park. Rodney travels, hikes and camps in all kinds of weather and terrain to capture the color and black & white images that have made him an award-winning artist.

He uses a purist style – never using technology to enhance his images. The end result is a glorious display of the simple, magnificent beauty of the natural world that is waiting there for us to enjoy if we are willing to slow down and take the time to appreciate it. His work also serves as a reminder that not only should we enjoy nature, we should also respect and preserve the natural world around us. Rodney understands the need to balance this with the demands life brings, “Although I consider myself a naturalist and conservator of wilderness, I recognize the need for human existence and truly believe I understand our place in this world….were it not for the greed of man we would be in a better world today. A better world is what I’m striving to help build.”

Rodney began his full-fledged career as a landscape photographer in 1995 after deciding to leave the corporate world behind. With the encouragement of his wife and family, Rodney decided to take the road less traveled and make a career of his love of the wilderness and photography. Five years later, Rodney has won a number of prestigious awards and has participated in over one hundred juried art shows. His photographs are collected by people around the world including Aaron and Barbara Michaelson, co-owners of the Chicago White Sox.

Rodney’s interest in photography began at the age of twelve when he received his first camera. Since then he has expanded his equipment and technique mainly using two large format cameras – a 4x5 Arca Swiss field camera and an 8x10 Arca Swiss field camera. These large format cameras allow Rodney to do such a spectacular job of capturing his brilliant landscapes. After taking hundreds of pictures on location, Rodney returns to his darkroom and studio where he develops the prints and selects the best images. Some of his most difficult and intricate images can take up to two days to prepare for printing. He does all his own developing and printing with the assistance of his wife and office manager, LeeAnna.

Rodney grew up in the Pacific Northwest and received both a Bachelor and Master Degree from Brigham Young University. Rodney now lives in Happy Valley, Oregon with his wife LeeAnna and their four children.
