Withdrawing Fables From the Memory Bank

"As the author lets us know throughout, this is a work of metafiction. Certainly the historical events of 1963 through 1969, which serve as a chronological backdrop to the multiple related chapters, remain very real in much of our collective memory.
While all the characters are the product of Mr. Hirka's imagination, and their participation in those events is fictitious, their stories echo real people's struggles, hopes, and dreams.
Like fragments in a kaleidoscope, throughout the episodes, the vignettes created by the author shift through time  -  ultimately presenting us with a fascinating vision of these characters and their time and place.

The five bonus stories at the end round out a compelling personal view of life in New York City in the past half century."

 - Zĕna Kōan, author "No Chaser"

Putting words to paper for fifty+ years, AleXander Hirka's fiction, poetry and essays often share methods he developed over decades as a montage artist working in graphic, video and audio formats. Assembling, juxtaposing or superimposing, and reshaping diverse elements, all in the service of creating a unified composition - a brand new whole, not fractured, but in its own logic a glimpse into another world.
