33 x 21 cm. Folio. [10], 339, [1], 16, [8], 258 [i.e. 254], [1], 369-391, [1] pp. Engraved frontispiece of Spencer's tomb signed R. White sculp. Older full leather binding, 5 raised bands to spine, leather spine label. Title page printed in red and black. Licensed, October 24th 1678 by Roger L'Estrange. Confusing pagination, with several miss-numbered pages. Several seperate title pages for various works dated 1678. Editorship has been attributed to Dryden, but likely erroneously according the Johnson bibliography. The spine has been professionally rebacked and covers reattached, preserving much of the original spine. There is evidence of a fairly clean bookplate removal to front fixed endpaper and a name has been effaced from the title page. Small chip out of one edge of the frontispiece which does not effect the illustration. This has been repaired/reinforced nicely with tissue paper. Scuffing to the leather. A lovely early edition of Spenser's collected works. References: ESTC R7177. Johnson, A critical bibliography of the works of Edmund Spenser #21. OCLC 889640961.…
