Presentation copy inscribed on the front free endpaper to Princess Te Ata (Mary Thompson Fisher, 1895?1995), celebrated Chickasaw actress and storyteller, by G.W. Gerwig, Secretary and Treasurer of the Henry C. Frick Educational Commission, in appreciation of her contribution to the Pittsburgh Schools. Gerwig is identified by name and title on the facing Commission page, confirming the institutional origin of the gift.
Below the Gerwig inscription, a second dated inscription reads: "7-24-93 / This book from the library of Te Ata Fisher is reinscribed to Mary Francis. Given by Helen Cole, niece of Te Ata." This 1993 notation by Te Ata's niece establishes an unbroken chain of custody from Te Ata's personal library and provides rare self-documenting provenance.
Te Ata performed at the White House for Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, represented Native American culture on the international stage, and remains one of the most significant figures in Chickasaw cultural history. Oklahoma's Te Ata State Park bears her name.
