Broadside, 5.5 x 8.5 onches, printed in black on white. Inscribed by the author below poem: 'I did not write this poem - Nicholson Baker.' A fine copy. Poem: 'I wrote about 'The Size of Thoughts', / 'Fermata, 'Mezzanine,' and 'Vox' / (A tale of Ma Bell's way with cocks) - / I am a strange confection / Of Melody (the Eastman School's), / Card-catalogue (Panizzi's rules), / Phone-sex (a too- tumescent tool's / Perpetual erection). / At night, when I retire to rest / My ears are pricked; they are not pressed / To satisfy conjugal breast - / I do not dream of slumber / But conjure up a distant face / In torrid telephone embrace / Beyond the reach of data-base, / Of self-abuse with 'lumber' - / For I had just myself to please / I'd sacrifice my royalties, / For days on end Updike to tease / On my 900 number.' Below poem is printed: 'On the occasion of the publication of 'The Size of Thoughts', 50 copies of these lines (my rejected text for the back flap of the book's dust jacket) were printed for friends to slip into their copies.
