About the Author
Derek Ryan Jensen was born in Redwood City, California June 27, 1976. He lived under foster care until leaving on a church mission in the Dominican Republic (1995). After seven years of teaching and other positions of service, he returned to the USA.
He began writing short stories and poems before graduating from Moorpark High School in 1994, where he met Ray Bradbury and several other legendary writers.
During part of his childhood, Mr. Jensen spend many years with youth groups including the Boy Scouts of America who took him backpacking over hundreds and hundreds of miles in the High Sierras and other amazing locations across the western USA. Since his youth Mr. Jensen has been to National Parks all over the USA, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Mexico.
His stories will take you through our National Parks beginning in Death Valley and Yosemite, helping you understand our connection to Mother Nature. In the Grand Canyon you will dive deep into Native American folklore and see the world from the inside out.
During the series, you will meet folk heroes of the past, including John Henry (foster father of Lucy and Lucas), Paul Bunyan, Casey Jones, Kokopelli, Nonhelema, Pecos Bill, Johnny Appleseed, and many more to come.
