Samuel Niles (Harvard 1699) was the son of Captain Nathaniel Niles and Sarah Sands of New Shoreham (Block Island), Rhode Island. After graduation, Niles returned to Block Island as minister for two years and then removed to South Kingston, Rhode Island. While his congregation there may have likely included Native people, especially Narragansett, it is unclear if Niles undertook a special mission to them. Confusion in the historiography arises with the appearance of a New Light Narragansett preacher of the same name (1706-1785) in the same locale. After working as a missionary in South Kingston for ten years, Niles removed to the South Parish of Braintree, Massachusetts where he was ordained and served until his death. Niles was the author of several religious tracts and narratives of the French and Indian Wars. . Seller Inventory # RAREA1757DJLN
