Typed letter signed, on letterhead of The Oregonian, dated Septeber 20, 1917, addressed 'To Whom It May Concern.' Letter introduces Mr. Herman Whitaker, who represents The Oregonian as a correspondent and requests 'any courtesies extended to him will be duly appreciated by this newspaper.' About 35 words. Edgar B. Piper ( 1865-1928 was the Managing Editor of The Oregonian and WWI correspondent. Letter soiled and previously mounted with clear tape and black paper remnants on rear.
