Darkly saucy black and white photo-realist/fantasy S&M drawings by mysterious artist "EL," or "***" an unassuming senior citizen living in Southern Germany -- an "erotic autodidactic artist type" who wished to remain nameless. Presented by Istvan Schwenda, "the originator, editor and author of, among other things, the better erotica in West Germany." This copy is inscribed in pencil 1976 to the painter Sonnenstern by badboy publisher and his former assistant, Jes Petersen. "For my only and best friend, F.J. Sonnenstern, for your moral and spiritual guidance." (Petersen himself had once been put on trial for allegedly distributing pornographic writings.) Beyond putting out three books about Sonnenstern, Petersen was known for publishing such cultural figures as Raoul Housmann and Aleister Crowly, and showed, among others, Martin Kippenberger and Dorothy Iannone in his Berlin Gallery. Sonnenstern himself was a seminal outsider/erotic Berlin artist. If this copy indeed was ever in Sonnenstern's possession, the book would have come to him likely in the mental asylum, where he lived for the last several decades of his life. From the studio of outsider/action artist Ben Wagin. Any wear and tear are result of location in the artist's studio, where he often worked with sand, dirt and gold dust. Condition: Good. Shelf wear and some staining on the bottom, spotting on the top, a slight rip on soft-dustcover. Some very slight welling on back. Creasing on bottom right of pages near the end of the book.
