The worms

A gripping and emotionally charged novel that blends mystery, drama, and human compassion with subtle symbolism and unexpected twists.

The story opens with a series of enigmatic events that keep the reader guessing. A shadowy past, a broken contract, and a cloud of secrets hang over the lives of the characters—secrets that slowly unravel, pulling the protagonist deeper into a world far more complex than it first appears.

Alaa, a skilled agricultural engineer, arrives at the grand estate of Sheikh Ibrahim, accompanied by his younger brother Luay. His exceptional ability to detect pests and diseases threatening the orchard brings prosperity to the landowner—but also stirs old rivalries and hidden tensions. His success not only repays debts but exposes the dark undercurrents lurking beneath the surface.

Why does Sheikh Ibrahim keep a bloodstained, crumpled car hidden in his garage?
Who is the beautiful, mysterious young woman—lonely, spoiled by her father, and haunted by the death of her mother—who awakens love in Alaa’s guarded heart?
What’s the secret behind the greyhound, the chase involving a strange Mercedes, and the police raid on the palace?

As more characters enter the story—each with their own motives and backstories—the plot thickens. Alaa’s humanity shines through in his support for Riyad and his ailing sister Nada, who needs urgent surgery abroad. His kindness toward the workers wins their loyalty, setting him apart in a world where cruelty and exploitation are all too common.

The novel’s title remains an intriguing mystery until the very end—when the symbolic connection is finally revealed: both Alaa and Sheikh Ibrahim suffer from a heart condition, as if punished by the very nature they tried to control. The same worms they fought in the fields seem to gnaw at their hearts in a poetic twist of fate.

Rich in emotional nuance, layered characters, and suspenseful storytelling, this novel invites readers on a journey where love, loss, power, and redemption intertwine—until the final page.
