Description:

1 vol. in-8° (90 x 145 mm) de : 93 pp. (dont titre, dédicace, préambule, table) ; [2] ff. (devise, imprimeur) ; 40 reproductions photographiques. 1 vol. 8to (90 x 145 mm), untrimmed, with : 93 pp. (including title, dedication, preamble, table); [2] ff. (motto, printer); 40 photographic reproductions. Signed letter from the author: "A Monsieur le docteur Emmanuel Blanche, hommage très cordial et très respectueux, Henri Gadeau de Kerville."Illustrated publisher's paperback. Very rare private edition of this account of a trip to Egypt by Henri Gadeau de Kerville (1858-1940), French zoologist, entomologist, botanist, speleologist and archaeologist. Produced in limited editions on Arches laid paper, these small works of a literary or philosophical nature, or containing travel souvenirs, had been offered to friends and family as New Year's gifts since 1889. In this work, dedicated to his late parents, the author recounts his trip to Egypt in January 1904, illustrated with his own photographs, an opportunity for him to contemplate the vestiges of this ancient civilization he admired: "To see Egypt, to travel up the valley of the Nile which, for a series of centuries, was one of the brains of the world, to traverse this marvellous country where numerous witnesses of a civilization as remote as it is prodigious remain, such had long been one of my dreams". Born in Rouen to a father who made carding machines and was a member of the old Breton nobility, Gadeau de Kerville quickly developed an interest in nature when, at the age of 15, he discovered a new specie. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of the author's reflections on religious and philosophical topics, many of which are inspired by ancient Egyptian texts called "funereal books", including the "Book of the Dead". The author provides a unique perspective on the significance and meaning within these ancient texts, showing how, through the study of their ideas, we still have much to learn today about the nature of life and death. This book offers an insightful and accessible roadmap into a world that, like our own, grapples with many of the same big questions about existence and morality. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781390074093_0
