Readers itchy to know everything they need to about dermatology ought to infest libraries in search of Bark's guide. For Bark calls up experiences and revelations from his medical school days and his professional practice that make his book entertaining as well as informative. Such details as Bark's identification of a psoriasis sufferer by observing a trail of scales on the hospital corridor floor make the discussion of that malady come alive, and his ruminations about ear and other piercings demonstrate that fashions may change, but common dermatological problems just adjust and stay current. This is not to suggest that Bark makes light of suffering. Rather, he relates striking, real-life instances of the problems and the solutions he presents. Quick and easy to use as a reference and entertaining as a read-through, his book is an excellent prescription for medical consumers and others concerned with skin. Mike Tribby
