ROCKPORT WALKING PROGRAM, JAMES M. RIPPE, ANN WARD, FIRST EDITION
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Another book about walking for health, written under the aegis of the Rockport Institute, which creates walking programs and markets walking shoes. Do we need another book on this topic? Not this one. Only about 50 pages of this book cover walking; many important areas aren't discussed, such as walking at various ages, safety, weather, first aid, pregnancy, and how to deal with animals, vehicles, and pollution. The section about clothing is too brief and covers, not surprisingly, mostly shoes. There is a section about dining out, which could be helpful. The rest of the book contains recipes. Perhaps The Rockport Cooking Program would have been a better title. Instead, consider Mort Malkin's Walking: The Pleasure Exercise ( LJ 4/15/86).
