This was no ordinary murder, for the victim was Frank Masters, millionaire and philanthropist. The case was bound to attract much public attention. But Inspector Ghote finds that his demands for evidence are met with nothing but lies and evasions.

H.R.F. Keating has written numerous novels but he is perhaps most famous for the Inspector Ghote series set in India. He was the crime books reviewer for The Times for fifteen years, has served as Chairman of the CWA and the Society of Authors, and in 1987 was elected President of the Detection Club. He lives in London.
Sam Dastor captivates as Inspector Ghote of the Bombay Police in this engaging early tale by H.R.F. Keating, English author of over 25 Inspector Ghote books. In this one, Ghote must find out who killed an American philanthropist, who had been rescuing Bombay street children before he was poisoned. The story is awash in heartbreaking, swaggering street children; charming crooks; haughty Westerners; our own modest and occasionally arrogant Ghote; and so many more. The accents and speech patterns that Dastor uses create a multidimensional film on tape, and help the listener understand the social nuances of this complex tale. A mellifluous, intelligent reading left this listener wanting more Ghote and much more Dastor. A.C.S. © AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
