About the Author
RANDY SHILTS, one of the first journalists to recognize the national importance of the AIDS crisis, was a national correspondent for the San Francisco Chronicle for thirteen years. He is the author of The Mayor of Castro Street and And the Band Played On. He died in 1994.

It shows the hypocrisy of the American military who have been quite happy to tolerate homosexuality in the forces during wartime, but have cracked down heavily on the supposedly disruptive influence of homosexuals in peacetime, ruining numerous lives and driving many to suicide.
