Synopsis
Geeta, an educated, vivacious Bombay girl, marries into a conservative family and abruptly finds herself living in purdah in her husband's ancestral haveli. This is the story of how Geeta manages to carve out an identity for herself in the new and ostensibly stifling environment she has been plunged into. 'Inside the Haveli' is a modern classic about an independent young woman's struggle to hold on to her identity in a traditional world.

About the Author
Rama Mehta became a top sociologist, lecturer and novelist. One of the first women to be appointed to India's foreign service, she was forced to resign her position upon marriage. Rama Mehta died in 1978.
