In this book Professor Renfrew directs remarkable new light on the links between archaeology and language, looking specifically at the puzzling similarities that are apparent across the Indo-European family of ancient languages, from Anatolia and Ancient Persia, across Europe and the Indian subcontinent, to regions as remote as Sinkiang in China.
About the Author
Colin Renfrew studied natural sciences and archaeology at Cambridge. In 1964-5 he led an expedition, in collaboration with Professor J. D Evans, to excavate the first Stone Age settlement discovered in the Cyclades, and in 1969-70 was field director of the Anglo-American excavations at the important Bronze Age settlement of Phylakopi on the Cycladic island of Melos. He is now Master of Jesus College and Disney Professor of Archaeology at Cambridge.
