Synopsis

This new collection of classic puzzles will examine the most fascinating stories behind the world's most popular varieties of brainteasers. Why are they so popular, who are the people that have developed them, and where have they come from? Skipping from Lewis Carroll's word ladders to how the "Times" crossword won World War Two, "The Riddles of the Sphinx" is the perfect book for anyone who likes a brain teaser.
