A past president of the American Society for Public Administration and a member of the National Academy of Public Administration, Dr. Denhardt has published twenty-two books, including THE DANCE OF LEADERSHIP, THE NEW PUBLIC SERVICE, MANAGING HUMAN BEHAVIOR IN PUBLIC AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, THEORIES OF PUBLIC ORGANIZATION, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: AN ACTION ORIENTATION, IN THE SHADOW OF ORGANIZATION, and THE PURSUIT OF SIGNIFICANCE.
"I really like this text for its comprehensiveness, 'down-to-earth' examples of concepts, plus website references and tips. I have used it three semesters and really enjoy reading it each semester."
"Succinct coverage of a potentially voluminous topic. Well-written and a solid focus on the introductory level. Strong integration of values and ethics."
"The 'action orientation' is not as obvious in the actual text of the book as it is in the end-of-chapter pedagogical sections. The advantage of this approach is that the instructors who wish to emphasize the action approach can utilize this material, and those who don't can ignore it"
