Lewis often said that his favorite form of literary expression was the narrative poem, although he appears to have written just four, all of which are collected here. They exhibit the romantic aspects of his temperament and reveal his deep love for medieval and Renaissance poetry. Edited and with a Preface by Walter Hooper.

Step into the world of fantasy: from the famed Lancelot’s adventures to the enchanting woodland that becomes the home of the Queen of Drum, Narrative Poems showcases Lewis’s deep love for storytelling and wonder. While Lewis is often known for his fiction and philosophical nonfiction, he was also a talented poet and often said that the narrative poem was his favorite form of literary expression. This collection of four longer poems—“Dymer,” “Launcelot,” “The Nameless Isle,” and “The Queen of Drum”—reveals Lewis’s passion for fantasy that shaped his beloved works of fiction.
C. S. (Clive Staples) Lewis (1898-1963), one of the great writers of the twentieth century, also continues to be one of our most influential Christian thinkers. A Fellow and tutor at Oxford until 1954, he spent the rest of his career as Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge. He wrote more than thirty books, both popular and scholarly, inlcuding The Chronicles of Narnia series, The Screwtape Letters, The Four Loves, Mere Christianity and Surprised by Joy.
