Jerry Edelwich, M.S.W., coauthor (with Archie Brodsky) of Burnout: Stages of Disillusionment in the Helping Professions and Sexual Dilemmas for the Helping Professional, does extensive counseling and lecturing on diabetes, drug and alcohol abuse, and staff burnout. Archie Brodsky, coauthor of Love and Addiction and Medical Choices, Medical Chances, is Research Associate in the Program for Psychiatry and the Law at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Harvard Medical School.
This comprehensive book's main objective is to offer support for the 11 million Americans who have diabetes. Although it does include factual medical information about the disease, the emphasis here is on changes in lifestyle and family relations resulting from the disease. Covered extensively are diet, exercise, work, medications, sexuality, and new technology. Each chapter addresses the needs of both juvenile and adult onset diabetes patients and includes suggestions for further reading. The style is clear and interesting, with case histories used to illustrate problems and solutions. This is an excellent addition to any general medical collection, as it covers an area usually overlooked. Recommended. Debra Berlanstein, Towson State Univ. Lib., Baltimore
