Synopsis
This book sheds light on an enigmatic figure from the early days of Italian humanist culture. Sozomeno Pistoriensis, a priest and Latinist, was a lover of classical texts, a skilled calligrapher, and a scholar whose extensive writings and dedication to the pursuit of knowledge make him a fascinating subject of study. The author tracks Sozomeno's life and times in careful detail, particularly his years spent teaching in Florence, where he likely mingled with the top humanist thinkers of his day. Blending biography with the broader history of the humanist movement in the 15th century, this book reveals Sozomeno's importance in the rediscovery and dissemination of ancient texts and offers insights into the intellectual currents that shaped the Renaissance.
