The Robin: A Collection of Music for Day and Sunday School, Juvenile Singing Classes, and the Social Circle; Being the Spring Number of "Our Song Birds;" A Juvenile Musical Quarterly (Classic Reprint) - Softcover
Synopsis
This book is an extensive collection of religious and recreational songs written for the use of Christian day and Sunday schools. The songs are written by several distinguished authors—including George F. Root and B. R. Hanby—and are comprised of hymns, spirituals, and patriotic songs. This book was written at a time when many music books used in schools were strictly religious in nature. Students and teachers alike found these books to be dull and uninspiring. The author sought to correct this by including a wide range of songs in this book that could be used for both sacred and secular purposes. The inclusion of these recreational songs makes the book unique for its time and demonstrates the author's forward-thinking approach to music education.
