Confronting an Era of Exploitation in the Congo

A clear, research‑based look at the Congo Basin’s colonial system and the abuses tied to rubber and resource extraction. This book presents the case for reform, backed by documents, maps, and firsthand accounts.

This edition assembles the key features of a broader protest movement, tracing how a tenacious business‑state structure enabled widespread oppression in the Congo and how public opinion in Europe and America pressed for change. It blends historical context with practical evidence intended to inform readers and influence policy.

Explains the political and economic setup behind the Congo Basin’s colonial enterprises
Provides maps and data to illustrate how control and profits were organized
Shares eyewitness testimony and excerpts from contemporary debates and reports
Outlines the ethical stakes and the global call for accountability

Ideal for readers seeking a sober, documented account of early 20th‑century Congo reform efforts and the international response to colonial practices.
