Synopsis
This book presents a new and powerful perturbation method for studying many-particle quantum systems, applicable to problems like thermal conductivity, heat conduction, electrical resistance, and superconductivity. It's based on techniques developed by the author and N. M. Hugenholtz for studying quantum systems with a large number of particles. The author begins by presenting the application of the methods to a concrete physical problem: the study of interactions of elastic waves in solids at absolute zero. This is followed by a series of articles dealing with the new methods and their application to problems or methods discussed in the lectures, by the author, G. Placzek, and N. M. Hugenholtz. This book offers a convenient and self-contained introduction to a method developed to study interactions in quantum systems with a large number of particles.
