Synopsis

Relive the intensity of World War I artillery combat through the eyes of Battery E.

This memoir transports you to the front lines with the Rainbow Division as its guns thunder and the landscape tests every nerve. Through vivid scenes and tight, first-hand detail, you’ll feel the pulse of the campaign from gunnery pits to timbered woods and muddy roads.

The narrative follows hard fighting, quick shifts in orders, and small moments that reveal courage and camaraderie. From tense marches and river fords to the noise of shells and the pace of retreat, the book blends action with the daily grind of serving under pressure.

• Experience the choreography of artillery in motion, from caissons to three-horse teams and rapid emplacements
• See how weather, terrain, and enemy fire shape decisions on the march
• Encounter the humor, improvisation, and rough camaraderie that sustain a unit under fire
• Get a front-row view of life behind the guns, including foraging, maintenance, and crew duties

Ideal for readers of military history and WWI memoirs, especially those interested in frontline artillery perspectives.
