Delightful, classic animal fables with a witty twist.

This illustrated collection gathers humorous tales from a German tradition, anchored by the cunning Reynard the Fox and brought to life with period artwork that readers will recognize and enjoy.

A richly illustrated edition that pairs traditional animal stories with memorable pictures inspired by Kaulbach’s designs. The book frames a world where foxes, bears, cats, and other creatures speak, scheme, and plot in lively, morally flavored adventures.

Although presented in a light, entertaining tone, the volume preserves the charm and moral texture of the original tales, making it a charming gateway to European folklore for both younger readers and adults who enjoy folklore and vintage illustration.

Stories centered on Reynard the Fox and his varied adventures, interwoven with other animal characters
Sixteen or more illustrations and engravings that echo the book’s period style
Preface notes on the work’s sources and its place in popular storytelling traditions
Accessible prose that balances humor, mischief, and old-world charm

Ideal for readers who love classic fables, illustrated folklore, and timeless tales of wit and consequence.
