This book is a substantial contribution to the study of atmospheric temperature covering the United States and some adjacent parts of America. It contains the results of all observations to the end of the year 1870 from various sources. The author has endeavoured to present his results in a precise form and in a manner comparable among themselves, with mean or normal values or the so-called constants of temperature. The statistical information is followed by an extended discussion of the daily and annual temperature variations, their differences with seasons and for longer periods of years, and the generalization of the results either in analytical or graphical form. The author's insights on the subject shall be valuable to meteorologists as they continue to study climate patterns and changes over time.
