The included appendix gathers extracts that illuminate the era’s efforts to shape African policy and missionary work.

Eyewitness accounts from travels and shipboard experiences in West Africa and the Caribbean.
Appendices with official extracts from church and colonial discussions on African settlements and trade.
Profiles of colonial posts, including Sierra Leone and Gambia, and notes on their growth and trade.
