Case histories cover studies in river communities where contrasting conditions in equatorial forest rivers (Zaire and Amazon) and season floodplain rivers exist; in lacustrine communities in the Great Lakes of Africa and some smaller lakes; and in man-made lakes, considered as experimental systems, showing how communities change from riverine to lacustrine ones."
