Synopsis
This book represents an endeavor to select and present some examples of striking, even surprising, numerical relationships from the almost unlimited store of scientific data. The reader will find here a collection of "fixed points", and aid- so it is hiped-- to understanding the much greater mass of data which will be found in text books on the subjects dealt with. such fixed points can become mental images, more readily retained than the exact, useful, but sometimes exceedingly dry series of numbers and symbols to be found in such test books. A vivid image may not only be surprising in itself but, as the author knows from his own experience, also evocative of other , sometimes quite unexpected, ideas.
