Pp. 584, 158 fine color plates from paintings by W. Cooper. Publisher's original full green morocco leather, spine with four raised bands, two compartments with red morocco title and publisher labels that are lettered in gilt, green endpapers, folio (15 1/4 x 10 1/2 inches). The scarce original printing of this ornithological classic. Considered by many to be one of the truly great twentieth century bird books. The work describes and illustrates 340 species of parrots. The color plates in this edition are truly spectacular. This copy, bound in full green morocco, was purchased directly from Lansdowne in Melbourne, Australia. This is the publisher's binding, yet there is no record of a leather-bound edition of this classic. No ownership marks and no signs of use.
