The (original) English edition is very rare ; it was quickly obsolete , and reprinting was out of the question following the war and revolution. The Russia it describes was passing through the most critical two decades of its history. The country had not yet recovered from the shock od defeat by the Japanese in 1905, world war was about to be declared, and the social forces that were to explode in the 1917 revolution were simmering.
