Review:
Having trouble developing a consistent and profitable investment strategy? Are your stocks really making you any money? If you find yourself asking these questions, then you may want to give Peter J. Tanous a try. In The Wealth Equation, Tanous, who also wrote Investment Gurus, promises to help you clean up your financial act with the help of "7 Master Keys to investment success." He bases his advice on his 35 years in the investment business and on interviews with investment superstars including Victor Niederhoffer, Gary Brinson, and Peter Bernstein. Tanous's equation for financial well-being begins by asking the reader to identify his or her investment-personality profile (e.g., "Are you conservative by nature or do you enjoy taking risks?"). Next, he leads the reader through the "7 Master Keys," which are essentially commonsense rules to investing (e.g., Master Key 1: Set Realistic Goals; Master Key 2: Understand Risk). Tanous's equation ends by stressing the importance of asset allocation and helping the reader build a portfolio based on his or her personality and investment-time horizon. Just about any investor should find something useful here, especially the frustrated investor who is looking for a more systematic approach to building a successful portfolio. --Harry C. Edwards
From the Back Cover:
"Most financial books provide a single blueprint for investment success. Peter Tanous introduces you to some of the finest investment architects in the business and helps you select a style and floor plan you will be most comfortable with." Mario J. Gabelli, Gabelli Funds, Inc.

"The Wealth Equation combines time-tested investment principles with a novel investment personality questionnaire to arrive at the right portfolio for any investor. This book is a winner." Senator George J. Mitchell

"Finally: a fresh approach to creating a winning investment portfolio based on sound investment theory and one's own investment personality. Tanous has written a book that will appeal to pragmatic corporate executives and all others who seek an intelligent, rational approach to wealth through investing in the stock market." Dr. Ray R. Irani, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Occidental Petroleum Corporation.

"Economists rarely factor human behavior into their investment decisions. Tanous offers a fresh approach to investing by advocating both sound investment principles and factoring in the human side of financial decision-making." Arthur B. Laffer, Ph.D., President, Laffer Associates

"A comprehensive, individually-tailored approach to investing. Fascinating and illuminating, The Wealth Equation is must reading for serious investors." William M. Issac, Former Chairman, F.D.I.C.

"In The Wealth Equation, Peter Tanous has written an intelligent and fun to read guide to financial planning for everyone. He deals masterfully and clearly with such key investment concepts as risk, return and asset allocation. Mr. Tanous uses personal anecdotes, interviews, and common sense to illuminate the darkest corners of modern portfolio theory, and to debunk some cherished myths. Beyond this, The Wealth Equation deals thoroughly with an issue that most market analysts never address: the role of personality in crafting the right investment plan for each of us. If I could recommend just one investment text for amateur and professional investors alike, this would be it." Bernard J. Picchi, CFA, Managing Director and Growth Stock Strategist, Lehman Brothers Inc.

"In today's world, individuals must not only save, they must also invest wisely. Tanous' Seven Master Keys provide much needed investment strategies. THE WEALTH EQUATION is a must read." J. Carter Beese, Jr., Former Commissioner, S.E.C.

"It's about time! Peter Tanous' The Wealth Equation is just that a combination of practical, proven ideas and techniques that can be successfully applied to your personalized investing strategy." Donald J. Herrema, Chief Operating Officer, Bessemer Trust Company, N.A.
