Synopsis
Maisy's plan to have a quiet read is put to the challenge by her giggling friends in this picture book ode to the pleasures of the local library.
Maisy likes going to the library.
She loves to read a book in a nice, quiet place.
Today, Maisy wants to read a book about fish, but she can only find books about birds or tigers. So she explores some of the other things to do in the library, like using the computer, making copies, listening to music, or looking at fish in the aquarium. Aha! Finally Maisy finds a sparkly book all about fish. But just as she settles into a corner to read, along come Cyril, Tallulah, Eddie, and Ostrich — and they all have noisier activities on their minds!

About the Author
Lucy Cousins, the creator of Maisy, won the 2002 Smarties Book Prize Gold Award for the Under-5s category with her picture book Jazzy in the Jungle. Her other titles include Hooray for Fish! and Za-za's Baby Brother, which was used by baby charity Tommy's in a nationwide ad campaign. She lives in Petersfield, Hampshire.

PreS-K. In Cousins' latest picture book about Maisy, the amiable little mouse goes to the library because "she loves to read a book in a nice, quiet place." Maisy settles down with a book about fish, but her friends come in, and she joins them for a story program. Her once-quiet reading place is now filled with hysterical laughter about the old lady who swallowed a fly. Maisy checks out her book and finds another "nice, quiet place" to read--outdoors, under a tree. The illustrations, in Cousins' signature style, feature bold, black outlines filled with deep, solid colors, making the pictures easy for even toddlers to interpret. Adults hoping for a simple guide to using libraries may be disappointed. It makes perfect sense to Maisy that she finds a fish book by the aquarium; the Dewey Decimal system can wait a few years.
