Well illustrated and presented in practical terms throughout, it takes the reader through emergency procedures in point-by-point fashion, often in an outline format that enhances its utility as a reference tool. In fact, it is better suited to reference use than as read-through literature. It covers the subject matter comprehensively, affording diagnostic and therapeutic information on conditions ranging from abdominal complaints (gastritis, giardiasis, mittelschmerz) to dental emergencies (infected wisdom tooth, trench mouth). Procedures for signaling for help and a series of checklists and forms round out the contents. More useful in a backpack than on a shelf, this is still a book many libraries will want to acquire in order to have simple and important emergency medical information in a single, well-organized source.
