These two western novels are crafted with Ray Hogan's signature style: compelling depth of character combined with narrative that is as intensely interesting as it is emotionally involving. In "Track the Man Down," Ben Dunn's fate is immediate hanging upon capture. "Valley of the Wandering River" details Dave Chant's mistaken belief that it is possible for a man to go home again.

Two short novels by western master Hogan combine his signature components of character-driven plots and vivid frontier ambience. In Track the Man Down, Ben Dunn heads home with documents from the New Mexico land office that he hopes will settle his dispute with neighbor Isaac Pope. But a chance meeting with Laura, Pope's daughter, sets the pair at odds with Pope's adopted son and a pair of hired guns who want to take over both spreads. The ensuing violence is played out against the growing affection between Laura and Ben as they struggle to stay free of a hangman's noose and reclaim their heritage. Valley of the Wandering River finds Dave Chant returning home after a notorious stint as a hired gun. Dave wants to put the violence behind him and work alongside his father and brother at the family spread. But Dave's father has been murdered, and the ranch has been lost. It's clear to Dave that he can't hang up his gun just yet. Expect steady demand from Hogan's legion of fans. Wes Lukowsky
