Grade 6-9-Yet another title in the flood of anatomy books crossing the Atlantic, this Spanish import can be passed over by most libraries. While the full-color illustrations are striking, the text is a mere recitation of facts; it is often choppy, usually boring, and frequently incomplete. Tacked on at the end is a discussion of heredity, which falls under the heading of "How We Develop," and is paired with the suggestion that one find a pregnant family member or close friend, put one's ear to that person's abdomen, and listen for the baby's heartbeat. Print is tiny, and illustrations are often labeled with letters or numbers that are repeated in the caption, forcing readers to search around the page to figure out what they're looking at. And while a double-page spread is devoted to the placenta, it is neither identified nor clearly defined in the text.
